Barcelona’s Renova Program Returns: Give Your Clothes and Toys a Second Life

Barcelona is once again championing conscious consumption and waste reduction with a new edition of its ‘Renova’ initiative. As part of the Zero Waste Plan 2021-2027, this program encourages active reuse among citizens, running from November 10 to December 13.

What is the Renova Program?

The ‘Renova tu ropa’ (Renew your clothes) and ‘Renova tus juguetes’ (Renew your toys) programs allow residents to exchange good-condition items they no longer use for ‘Renova points’. These points can then be used to acquire other items contributed by the community. All materials undergo a quality check, and points are valid only for the current edition, fostering balanced and responsible consumption.

Renova tu ropa: Extending the Life of Your Wardrobe

The ‘Renova tu ropa’ program provides a safe and organized space for sharing clothing that still has plenty of wear left. Participants can bring up to 10 garments, including a maximum of 2 coats or jackets, provided they are clean and in good condition. In return, they can exchange these for up to 10 pieces of similar quality.

The project also promotes customization and upcycling through Digital Fabrication Ateneus. These centers offer tools like 3D printing, laser cutting, and digital embroidery, enabling participants to repair and personalize their clothing. For exchange points and schedules, please refer to the provided link.

Renova tus juguetes: Keeping Smiles Alive

For families, ‘Renova tus juguetes’ offers an opportunity to exchange good-condition games and books. Each child can bring up to 10 toys and 5 books, all requiring a CE certificate and meeting safety and quality standards. Sexist, warlike, broken, dirty, or promotional toys are not accepted.

The Renova coupons obtained can be exchanged for other toys available across the network. Additionally, Digital Fabrication Ateneus can help repair toys by 3D printing small parts like wheels or buttons, extending their lifespan. For more on responsible toy consumption, resources like ‘La Vida de los Juegos y los juguetes’, ‘El Hospital de los Juguetes’, and ‘Juguetes Ecológicos’ are available.

With each new edition, the Renova program reinforces its commitment to environmental education, community participation, and waste reduction. Barcelona invites you to join this community dedicated to a more responsible consumption model, where every action makes a difference.
