The Royal Madrid Golf Federation (RFGM) has officially unveiled the honorees of its prestigious Medals for Merit in Golf, following the latest meeting of its Board of Directors. These accolades, representing the highest institutional distinction in Madrid golf, this year acknowledge both the management of key figures, sporting success, and the spirit of camaraderie.

Individual Recognition: Juan Guerrero Burgos y Pereiro

In the Individual category, the medal has been bestowed upon Don Juan Guerrero Burgos y Pereiro, the current President of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation. With this award, Madrid recognizes his leadership and unwavering commitment to the development and promotion of golf at a national level.

Institutional Merit: Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid

The Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid has been honored with the Institutional Merit Medal. The Federation highlights its pivotal role as host to major international events, particularly for the impeccable organization of the Spanish Golf Open on its facilities, thereby solidifying its position as a global showcase for the city.

Sporting Success: Paula Martín

Sporting success also has a name: Paula Martín. The player will receive a commemorative plaque in recognition of an extraordinary season, marked by her victories in the British Ladies’ Amateur and the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship, among other titles that confirm her status as one of the great promises-and current realities, as the world number 2 in the amateur rankings-of Spanish golf.

New Award: Plaque for the Values of Madrid Golf

However, the most touching announcement has been the creation of the Plaque for the Values of Madrid Golf. This new annual distinction aims to reward attitudes that transcend tournament scores. The first recipient will be Paula de Francisco, for her exemplary gesture during the British Amateur: after being eliminated in the quarterfinals, she chose to stay and caddy for “Paulita” Martín during the semifinal and final. This act of generosity and sportsmanship represents, according to the Board of Directors, the true essence that the Federation wishes to foster in new generations.

The medals and plaques, along with recognition for other federated members, amateurs, and professionals who have excelled in the most prestigious national and international competitions, will be celebrated at the Madrid Golf Tribute Gala, scheduled for next February 19th.

Congratulations to all!
