Man Miraculously Survives Two Falls Onto Barcelona Metro Tracks

Barcelona, January 5 – A man under the apparent influence of alcohol and drugs miraculously survived two separate falls onto the metro tracks in Barcelona on Monday, including being run over by a train. The incidents, which occurred at Urquinaona and Passeig de Gràcia stations, caused minor disruptions to metro services but, astonishingly, resulted in only minor injuries for the individual.

The first incident unfolded around 8:30 AM at Urquinaona station (L4). According to ADN Sindical Seguridad y Servicios de Catalunya, a man exhibiting clear signs of intoxication stumbled on the platform and fell onto the tracks. Fellow passengers quickly alerted authorities using the SOS button and helped retrieve him from the tracks. A canine unit security guard also responded, with the dog’s reaction suggesting the presence of drugs. The union criticized the lack of a two-person patrol, suggesting it could have better contained the situation.

A Second Attempt and an Unbelievable Escape

Despite the initial scare, the man did not remain at Urquinaona. After being removed from the tracks, he reportedly left the station, only to attempt re-entry via the L1 access point a few minutes later. Security personnel observed him stumble again in the vestibule before he exited the station once more.

Approximately an hour later, around 9:30 AM, the man reappeared at Passeig de Gràcia station (L2). Still under the influence, he again fell onto the tracks, this time just as a train was passing. In an astonishing turn of events, the train ran over him. Miraculously, the man emerged from beneath the train with only minor bruises from the falls, according to the security guards’ account.

Emergency Response and Service Disruptions

Emergency services, including Bombers de Barcelona, Mossos d’Esquadra, and metro security, swiftly responded to the scene at Passeig de Gràcia. The Catalan autonomous police confirmed an accidental fall with no signs of criminality, emphasizing the fortunate outcome that the individual did not sustain fatal injuries. Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) reported a partial interruption of service between Sagrada Família and Badalona Pompeu Fabra from 9:28 AM to 9:58 AM due to the incident, causing approximately 15-minute delays.

This extraordinary event highlights the dangers of intoxication in public transport areas and the critical role of quick-thinking passengers and emergency services in preventing a tragedy. The man’s survival has been described as nothing short of a miracle by those involved.
