25-year-old motorcyclist dies in Barcelona accident: four dead on the road in less than a day

Barcelona, February 21, 2026 – A 25-year-old motorcyclist died today, Saturday, February 21, in a traffic accident in Barcelona. This tragedy brings the total number of fatalities on Catalan roads to four in less than 24 hours, a deeply concerning figure that marks a grim start to the weekend.

The motorcyclist, a 25-year-old man, was transported to the hospital after the accident but succumbed to his injuries there. The Barcelona Urban Guard is currently investigating the causes of the accident to compile the official report.

Accident Details

The incident occurred around 12:45 PM on Nicaragua Street in Barcelona, within the Sants-Montjuïc district. Near number 27, the motorcyclist suffered an accident and was found lying on the ground. An ambulance from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) and units from the Urban Guard’s Central Traffic Accident Unit (UCAT) were dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, the young man was still alive and was transported in critical condition to Hospital Clínic, where he later died despite efforts to save him.

Four Fatalities in Under 24 Hours

The causes of the accident remain unknown, but according to the Urban Guard, no other vehicle was involved. At this time, it is not clear what caused the motorcyclist to fall. This young man is the third fatal victim in Barcelona this year. With this accident, four people have now died on Catalan roads in the last 24 hours, three of whom were motorcyclists.

Just minutes before the Barcelona incident, a man also died in a solo accident on the B-300 in Calonge de Segarra, Anoia, without involving any other vehicle. Yesterday evening, two more people, a woman and a minor, died in a head-on collision with another vehicle.

The series of accidents has prompted concerns among traffic authorities regarding road safety and has initiated further investigations into the causes of these incidents. The authorities urge all road users to exercise extreme caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.

The Barcelona City Council has expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and has reiterated its commitment to improving road safety through awareness campaigns and stricter enforcement of traffic laws. The investigation into the specific circumstances of each accident is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as they become available.
