Barcelona, February 21, 2026 – Catalonia has experienced a tragic weekend on its roads, with four fatalities reported in separate traffic accidents. Three of the victims were motorcyclists, highlighting a concerning trend in road safety.

Motorcyclist Dies in Barcelona, Third Fatal Accident in the City This Year

A 25-year-old motorcyclist died this Saturday in a traffic accident in Barcelona’s Sants-Montjuïc district. This incident marks the third fatal road accident in the city this year. The Barcelona City Council reported that the accident occurred around 12:30 PM on Nicaragua Street, number 27. The causes of the collision are still unknown. The motorcyclist suffered severe injuries and passed away shortly after being transferred to a hospital by the Medical Emergency System (SEM).

Another Motorcyclist Fatality in Calonge de Segarra

Also on Saturday, another motorcyclist died on the B-300 road near Calonge de Segarra. The Catalan Traffic Service (Servei Català del Trànsit) stated that the accident, a single-vehicle fall, happened at 12:52 PM.

Minor Dies in Gavà After Head-On Collision

On Friday, a minor from Viladecans (Barcelona) was killed after a head-on collision between his motorcycle and a car on kilometer 4.9 of the BV-2041 in Gavà (Barcelona). According to the Catalan Traffic Service, the motorcyclist subsequently collided with a second vehicle. Six Mossos d’Esquadra patrols and four SEM units were dispatched to the scene.

Woman Dies in Head-On Collision in Artesa de Segre

Later on Friday, at 10:53 PM, emergency services were alerted to another accident on kilometer 51 of the C-26 road in Artesa de Segre (Lleida). This incident involved a head-on collision between a car and an SUV, resulting in the death of the car’s driver and sole occupant, identified as A.N.B., a 36-year-old woman from Mollerusa (Lleida). The five occupants of the SUV were taken to Arnau de Vilanova Hospital in Lleida with minor injuries. Six Mossos patrols, five units from the Generalitat Fire Department, and four SEM units worked at the scene.

Ongoing Investigations into the Causes of the Accidents

Authorities are currently investigating the causes of all these tragic incidents. The high number of motorcyclist fatalities in particular has raised concerns among road safety experts. The Mossos d’Esquadra and the Catalan Traffic Service are working to determine the precise circumstances leading to each accident.
