Mossos Recover Unique Accordion Valued at 5,000 Euros Stolen on Barcelona Train

Barcelona, March 7, 2026 – The Mossos d’Esquadra have successfully recovered a unique accordion, valued at 5,000 euros, which was stolen from a train in Barcelona. A man has been arrested in Ripollet (Vallès Occidental) on Saturday for a crime of receiving stolen goods, after attempting to sell the instrument online. This particular accordion is one of only five such instruments in Spain.

From Barcelona to France: The Accordion’s Journey

According to a statement from the police force, the victim reported the instrument missing in January upon arriving in Reus, having traveled by train from Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona. Following the report, a police investigation was launched to track the accordion, an aerophone of significant economic value and also notable for its exclusivity within the country.

The investigation, led by the Reus Investigation Unit, ultimately led to the recovery of the instrument and the identification of a man. He was subsequently arrested for his alleged involvement in receiving the stolen accordion, as he was attempting to sell it through a second-hand online marketplace.

In a surprising turn of events, the instrument had already crossed the border and reached France within a few days of the theft. The arrested man claimed he had found it abandoned in a bin. After failing to sell it, he reportedly sent it to a cousin residing in French territory.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

As the incident could not be directly classified as a theft, the arrested individual remained in police custody before being released with the obligation to appear in court when required. The investigation into the full circumstances of the theft and the journey of the unique accordion continues.

The recovery of this instrument highlights the investigative capabilities of the Mossos d’Esquadra in tracking down valuable stolen items, even when they cross international borders. The case also serves as a reminder of the risks associated with buying and selling items through unverified online platforms.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, expressed relief and gratitude to the police for their swift action in recovering such a rare and valuable possession.
