Madrid Prepares for a Rainy Weekend and Temperature Drop

Madrid, April 11, 2026 – The Community of Madrid is bracing for a notable shift in weather conditions this weekend, with forecasts indicating unstable weather, scattered showers, and a significant drop in temperatures. While not as intense as in other parts of the Iberian Peninsula, the change will be most noticeable in maximum temperatures, especially on Sunday, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

Saturday: Unstable Weather with Showers and Saharan Dust

Saturday is expected to bring an unstable weather pattern, featuring weak rains and scattered showers. These will be more probable, frequent, and intense in the Sierra region and during the afternoon. There is also a possibility of thunderstorms and the presence of Saharan dust, which could result in muddy rain.

The sky will be mostly cloudy and covered with a haze of Saharan dust. Winds will be light and variable, predominantly from the east, increasing in intensity and shifting to the northeast by the end of the day. Temperatures will begin to decline, with maximums ranging between 22 and 26 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures will be less affected in the center and south, settling between 11 and 13 degrees Celsius by the end of the day.

Sunday: Colder Conditions, but Rains Expected to Subside

On Sunday, precipitation is expected to increase in intensity during the early morning hours, though remaining largely weak throughout the day. Rains are forecast to subside gradually during the morning. The snow level will descend, potentially reaching around 1,600 meters in the Sierra by midday.

Skies will be cloudy and overcast, gradually clearing from west to east in the afternoon, eventually leaving partly cloudy conditions, primarily with mid-level clouds. Isolated morning fog patches are not ruled out in the peaks of the Sierra.

Temperatures will continue their downward trend, with a significant drop in maximums. These will fall from above 20-25 degrees Celsius to between 14 and 18 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures will range between 6 and 9 degrees Celsius, with a possibility of light frost in the higher elevations of the Sierra. Winds will be light to moderate from the north.

A “Radical” Change for the Weekend

This weekend’s weather represents a “radical” change, marking a departure from the warmer conditions experienced earlier in the week. The AEMET has also issued warnings for high waves, heavy rainfall, and snow in other parts of Spain, although Madrid’s impact will be primarily felt through the temperature drop and increased precipitation.

Residents are advised to be prepared for these changing conditions, especially those planning activities in the Sierra. The shift in weather patterns underscores the variability of spring weather in the region.
