Madrid Boosts Social Care with €64.4 Million Investment Across 30 Public Centers

Madrid, April 14, 2026 – The Community of Madrid is set to invest a substantial 64.4 million euros in the comprehensive upgrade of 30 public social care centers under the purview of the Madrid Agency for Social Care (AMAS). These significant improvements are slated for completion between late 2026 and the first half of 2027, promising enhanced facilities and services for the region’s most vulnerable populations.

Ana Dávila, the regional Minister of Family, Youth, and Social Affairs, today visited the Navalcarnero Elderly Residence, where a major 26.7 million euro remodeling project, funded by European funds, is currently underway. Dávila emphasized that this initiative will provide the center with more spacious environments, technologically equipped rooms, and personalized services tailored to the specific needs of residents and their families. “People are at the heart of our work, and we are committed to offering them the best possible care,” she stated.

Significant Capacity Increase and Modernization

The Navalcarnero residence, upon completion, will see its capacity expand from 120 to 161 places, distributed across seven cohabitation units. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to modernize and optimize social care infrastructure across the region.

The extensive renovation work across the 30 AMAS facilities includes crucial upgrades such as improvements to air conditioning systems, replacement of elevators, installation of new boilers and windows, and the integration of solar panels to boost energy efficiency. These measures aim to create more comfortable, safe, and environmentally sustainable environments for residents and staff.

Key Renovation Projects Underway

Among the major projects is the comprehensive remodeling of the Entrevías Elderly Center in Puente de Vallecas, the San Fernando Children’s Residence in Fuencarral-El Pardo, and the Fray Bernardino Occupational Center in Carabanchel. The latter will notably house the first residence for intellectually disabled individuals experiencing premature aging, with an investment of 10.8 million euros.

Furthermore, over 2.8 million euros will be allocated to general improvement and adaptation works at the Gran Residencia in Carabanchel, while 2.7 million euros will be dedicated to external roof interventions at the Nuestra Señora del Carmen Residence in Fuencarral-El Pardo. An additional sum exceeding 2 million euros is earmarked for the creation of new housing for young adolescents at the Isabel de Castilla Children’s Residence in Villa de Vallecas, involving the rehabilitation of two floors of the building.

Widespread Impact Across Madrid’s Social Care Network

The regional government’s efforts extend to various other centers, including the Alcalá de Henares Elderly Center; disability resources such as Ángel de la Guarda (Ciudad Lineal), Barajas, and Getafe; and children’s residences including Manzanares, El Encinar, and Norte (all in Ciudad Lineal), Chamberí, El Valle (Chamberí), Isabel Clara Eugenia (Hortaleza), and Leganés.

Finally, elderly residences receiving upgrades include Adolfo Suárez (San Blas Canillejas), Alcorcón, Arganda del Rey, Doctor González Bueno (Fuencarral-El Pardo), all located in the capital, as well as Gastón Baquero (Alcobendas), Reina Sofía (Las Rozas de Madrid), Santiago Rusiñol (Aranjuez), Arganda del Rey, Villaviciosa de Odón, and Francisco de Vitoria (Alcalá de Henares).

These investments underscore the Community of Madrid’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its most vulnerable citizens by providing modern, well-equipped, and person-centered social care facilities.
