Hospiten and the European University today formalized a significant agreement in anticipation of the upcoming inauguration of the Hospiten Madrid Boadilla Hospital. The accord, signed by Juan José Hernández Rubio, president of Hospiten, and Otilia de la Fuente, CEO and president of the European University, will enable the hospital network to offer clinical training in Medicine, Nursing, and Physiotherapy degrees. It will also strengthen the education of both undergraduate and postgraduate students across all disciplines within the Faculty of Medicine, Health, and Sports.

Promoting Advanced Research and Specialized Training

The collaboration extends to fostering highly specialized basic and applied research through two key laboratories. The first, the Genomics and Personalized Medicine Laboratory, will focus on studying various “omics” to develop and tailor personalized therapies, thereby enhancing clinical care and patient safety. The second, the Bioengineering and Data Processing Laboratory, will concentrate on analyzing advanced biomedical data, studying medical devices, AI research, and telemedicine. This will be conducted while strictly adhering to legal and ethical regulations, including data protection and confidentiality. The overarching goal of this partnership is to advance biomedical research, leading to improved diagnostics, treatments, and healthcare solutions, ultimately ensuring patient safety and well-being.

Furthermore, an International Training Unit in Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery will be established. This unit is designed to train professionals in advanced surgical technologies, providing specialized education and attracting medical residents (MIRs) and specialists globally. This initiative aims to create a high-level academic and clinical experiential environment.

A Long-Standing Educational Partnership

The relationship between Hospiten and the European University is not new. The European University of the Canary Islands already provides students from its Faculty of Health Sciences with opportunities to complete their training and gain professional experience at three Hospiten university hospitals: Hospiten Rambla, Hospiten Sur, and Hospiten Bellevue, all located on the island of Tenerife.

Internationally, Hospiten maintains additional university agreements in Mexico, specifically with Hospiten Cancun, and in Panama, with Hospiten Paitilla, further solidifying its commitment to global medical education.

Hospiten Madrid Boadilla: A Hub for Innovation and Training

The new Hospiten Madrid Boadilla is poised to become a leading center for training and research. This extensive hospital complex, spanning 55,000 square meters, will feature 160 hospitalization rooms, including 20 suites. It will also house 13 beds in the Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU), eight beds in the Neonatal ICU, 20 emergency beds for adults, and nine for pediatric emergencies, alongside 22 beds in the day hospital. In terms of surgical facilities, the hospital will be equipped with 16 operating rooms and five Labor and Recovery Labor Units (UTPR).

“Training is an integral part of our DNA. Our objective is to contribute to the development of new medical professionals and specialists, and to establish a university hospital with truly significant characteristics. We aim for students and professionals in training to have access to cutting-edge technology, multidisciplinary teams, and an environment that fosters hands-on learning and research. We aspire to transform this future hospital into a national and European benchmark,” stated the president of Hospiten, Juan José Hernández Rubio.

The agreement underscores a commitment from both institutions to enhance medical education and research, setting a new standard for healthcare training in the region and beyond.
