EMT Madrid Boosts Service with 22 New Professional Drivers
Madrid, May 27 – The Municipal Transport Company of Madrid (EMT Madrid) is reinforcing its public transport service with the incorporation of 22 new professional drivers. These new personnel will begin their duties today, Wednesday, May 27, transporting citizens across the capital to their workplaces, educational centers, hospitals, shops, and personal appointments, thereby becoming an essential part of Madrid’s mobility.
Intensive Training Program Completed
Over a period of five weeks, these new professionals completed 175 hours of intensive training, which combined theoretical and practical aspects in a comprehensive new driver training course. They successfully passed a medical examination and conducted real driving tests, both with and without passengers, to familiarize themselves with the service before their definitive integration into the workforce.
Continuous Growth and Service Improvement
With their arrival, EMT Madrid’s workforce continues to grow, enhancing its capacity to serve users. So far this year, 140 new drivers have been incorporated, five of whom came from internal mobility programs. This reinforcement is part of a sustained trend of workforce growth in recent years, driven by the City Council and EMT Madrid’s commitment to sustainable mobility and the improvement of public transport, aligned with the Madrid 360 Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
Significant Workforce Expansion Since 2019
Between late 2019 and May 2026, the Municipal Transport Company has added 2,292 professionals to its driving staff. In 2025 alone, 478 drivers joined, while in 2024, there were 369 new additions, and in 2023, 322. This consistent growth reflects the ongoing process of strengthening the service. Behind these figures lies the daily work of thousands of drivers who ensure that the bus service offers greater regularity, punctuality, and accessibility. Furthermore, the incorporation of new professionals increases EMT Madrid’s capacity to meet the city’s transport demand.
Impact on Madrid’s Mobility
The addition of these new drivers is expected to significantly improve the operational efficiency and reliability of EMT Madrid’s services. This initiative underscores the City Council’s dedication to providing a robust and efficient public transport system, crucial for the daily lives of Madrid’s residents and the city’s overall sustainability goals.
The continuous investment in human resources and training programs highlights EMT Madrid’s commitment to maintaining high standards of service and adapting to the evolving needs of urban mobility. This strategic expansion ensures that the public transport network remains a cornerstone of Madrid’s infrastructure, supporting economic activity and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens.
