Barcelona-Girona Airport Bus Service Significantly Increased for Summer Season
Barcelona, June 1 – The bus service connecting Barcelona with Girona-Costa Brava Airport is set to significantly enhance its operations starting today, June 1, 2026. This strategic expansion aims to accommodate the expected surge in passenger numbers during the summer holiday period.
A key change this year is the departure from the previous operational model, which was often subject to the volatility of commercial flight schedules. The new system introduces a robust and predictable transport structure with fixed timetables, offering users greater flexibility in planning their journeys in advance.
Fixed Frequencies and Uninterrupted Service Throughout the Week
The route, managed by the Sagalés company, is now definitively decoupled from the fluctuations and delays of commercial flights, establishing a completely fixed itinerary. This restructuring of the service translates into a total of 56 mandatory daily expeditions from Monday to Sunday, marking a milestone in availability compared to previous seasons.
The complete standardization of the service not only optimizes travel time predictability but also ensures constant seat availability seven days a week, mitigating the usual saturation problems during the summer months. The full timetables are available for download in PDF format.
Extended Operating Hours and Route Coverage
The new organization establishes a perfectly symmetrical distribution of 28 outbound and 28 return journeys each day, solidifying a direct mobility link between Barcelona’s Estació del Nord and the Girona terminal. The journey maintains an estimated duration of one hour and fifteen minutes under normal traffic conditions.
To meet the demand for both early morning flights and late-night connections, the operating hours have been drastically extended. The first departures from Barcelona will take place in the early hours of the morning, while the last services from the airport will extend until late at night, thus achieving comprehensive coverage of airport activity during peak season.
Measure Validity and Model Sustainability
This public transport contingency and optimization plan will be continuously operational until October 31, 2026. With this, transport entities ensure an efficient and high-capacity mobility ecosystem that will fully absorb the massive flow of tourists and residents during the months of highest holiday pressure.
