SIL Barcelona 2026 Highlights Innovation and Economic Importance of Logistics Sector
Barcelona, June 3rd, 2026 – The 28th edition of SIL Barcelona, organized by the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona (CZFB), commenced yesterday at Fira de Barcelona. The event, running until June 5th, gathers companies and professionals from the logistics, transport, intralogistics, and supply chain sectors, emphasizing the critical role of innovation and the economic weight of logistics.
Official Inauguration and Key Statements
The inauguration ceremony featured prominent figures, including José Antonio Santano, Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility; Jaume Baró, Secretary of Enterprise and Competitiveness of the Generalitat of Catalonia; Jordi Valls, Deputy Mayor of Barcelona City Council; Pere Navarro, Executive President of the CZFB and SIL; and Blanca Sorigué, General Director of the CZFB and SIL.
During the opening remarks, officials underscored logistics as a sector intrinsically linked to global economic activity and the adaptability of supply chains in various scenarios. Santano highlighted SIL as a crucial platform for addressing the major transformations facing the logistics sector, calling it a "backbone of the economy and an essential link for the development of multiple industries." Pere Navarro echoed this sentiment, stating, "When logistics works, the economy also works," and emphasized the sector’s evolution through talent, adaptation, and new technologies. Blanca Sorigué characterized SIL Barcelona 2026 as a "meeting point where talent, technology, and business connect" within the logistics sphere. Jaume Baró stressed the importance of ensuring goods and services reach their destinations, while Jordi Valls linked the sector to geopolitics and talent, calling for "more advanced and intelligent logistics infrastructures."
International Participation and Program Highlights
This year’s fair boasts over 600 participating companies, with 30% from international locations such as Germany, Andorra, Argentina, Belgium, Chile, China, the United Arab Emirates, Slovakia, the United States, France, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Peru, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the Dominican Republic, Romania, Turkey, and Switzerland. The organizers anticipate approximately 15,000 professional attendees, with 93% involved in their companies’ decision-making processes.
SIL Barcelona 2026 introduces over 160 new features and a comprehensive congress program featuring more than 250 speakers. The inaugural day’s discussions centered on the global context’s impact on international trade and the supply chain. The International Trade Summit included representatives from the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, Spanish Shippers Council, GSA, Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe, European Logistics Association, TuComex, and the Institute for Careers and Innovation in Logistics & Supply Chain.
The fair also hosted the Spain Air Cargo Day, organized in collaboration with the Air Cargo Club, the Air Cargo Commission of Barcelona-Catalunya Centre Logístic, and the Spanish Shippers Association. This session analyzed the state of air cargo, air trade flows, the consolidation of e-commerce, new innovation systems, and the impact of customs changes in the current geopolitical landscape.
Recognition and Addressing Sector Challenges
A significant event on the opening day was the 35th anniversary celebration of the Association of Transport and Logistics Centers of Spain and the European Association of Logistics Platforms. This celebration, held during ACTE’s General Assembly, included awards for individuals dedicated to promoting and developing transport centers and logistics platforms. Attendees included José Antonio Santano, Sara Hernández (Secretary General for Sustainable Mobility), Ramón Vázquez (President of ACTE), Alberto Milotti (President of Europlatforms), Carmelo González (President of CETM), and Pere Navarro.
The issue of gender disparity within the sector was also a key topic. The ZF Room hosted an interview with Sara Hernández, a session titled "Women who move the world: female leadership in logistics and Supply Chain," and a "Women in Logistics" networking event.
Upcoming Events and Closing Gala
The SIL Barcelona program continues with the Corredores Awards, scheduled for Tuesday at 4 PM in the SIL Auditorium, and the SIL 2026 Best Innovation Award, to be presented on Wednesday at 11 AM at the CZFB stand. The day will conclude with the Nit de la Logística (Logistics Night) at 8 PM at the Hotel Torre Melina in Barcelona, with the attendance of Óscar Puente, Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility; Jaume Collboni, Mayor of Barcelona; Pere Navarro; and Blanca Sorigué.
