Madrid, June 8, 2026 – A jewellery store in a shopping centre in Torrelodones, Madrid, was targeted in an armed robbery yesterday afternoon, marking the fifth such incident in the Community of Madrid this month. Four individuals, some reportedly carrying submachine guns, threatened employees before fleeing with an unspecified quantity of jewellery and watches.
Armed Robbery in Broad Daylight
The robbery took place at approximately 1:10 PM CEST at a jewellery store located in Espacio Torrelodones, a shopping centre conveniently close to the A-6 motorway, which the perpetrators used for their escape. According to eyewitnesses, the four assailants were masked and one was seen with a long-barreled weapon, possibly a submachine gun. They intimidated staff members before taking items from display cases.
After securing their loot, the robbers made their getaway in a white Peugeot rental car that was waiting nearby. This incident follows a pattern of recent robberies in the region, characterized by daytime assaults on jewellery stores and well-planned escapes.
Fifth Jewellery Robbery in a Month
This latest incident brings the total number of jewellery store robberies in the Community of Madrid to five within the last month. The Guardia Civil, responsible for law enforcement in Torrelodones, has taken charge of the investigation.
Notably, both the jewellery store robbed in Torrelodones and a store targeted last week in La Vaguada shopping centre, one of Madrid’s busiest, belong to the same chain, José Luis. Other recent robberies include a gold buying and selling establishment in Torrejón de Ardoz, and two other jewellery stores in the Entrevías shopping centre and on Calle de Toledo.
Videos Circulate Online, Witnesses Alarmed
Videos posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Vox Torrelodones show the assailants shouting and then running from the shopping centre. The footage also reveals a shattered display window at the jewellery store and customers visibly shaken by the event.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, examining the circumstances of the robbery and the getaway. The repeated nature of these crimes suggests a possible organized group operating in the region, prompting increased vigilance from law enforcement.
The series of robberies has raised concerns among residents and business owners about security in commercial areas across the Community of Madrid. Local authorities are expected to address these concerns and potentially implement additional security measures.
