SUNSET AT PEÑALARA

As the days lengthen and summer heat hasn’t arrived, a mountain hike is an ideal plan for family, friends, or couples. With clear spring skies, catching the sunset from a viewpoint is the perfect way to end the day. Madrid offers privileged spots for sunset views, from the Royal Palace and Temple of Debod in the city center to more distant locations like Cerro del Tío Pío. For the adventurous, Peñalara Peak in the Sierra de Guadarrama is a popular hiking destination. While not overly demanding, it requires preparation and careful planning to avoid getting lost.

The ascent to Peñalara Peak begins at Puerto de Cotos and takes approximately 2.5 hours, depending on the group’s pace. The 12-kilometer route includes areas with significant elevation changes, so caution is advised. The reward at the peak is a breathtaking sunset view.

  • Location: Sierra de Guadarrama
  • Transportation: Bus 691 (check schedules). Driving to the Cotos parking lot is recommended.
