Barcelona is set to ignite the excitement for the Tour de France 2026 Grand Départ with a grand civic celebration on March 26. The event, commencing at 6:00 PM on Passeig Lluís Companys, aims to share the city’s enthusiasm for hosting one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events. The festivities will include sports activities, live music, and a tribute to Barcelona’s rich cycling tradition, with special programs designed for children and families to promote the spirit of the Tour and encourage cycling as a healthy and sustainable mode of transport.

A Historic Opportunity for Barcelona

David Escudé, the Councillor for Sports, emphasized the significance of this moment, symbolizing the final stretch towards the Tour. “Barcelona has a great cycling tradition, and hosting the start of the Tour is a historic opportunity to share it with the world. We want the countdown to be a big, open, and participatory civic celebration,” Escudé stated.

Homage to Historic Cycling Entities

The day’s events will also feature a tribute to the city’s cycling heritage, honoring historical entities that have championed the sport for over a century. Among those recognized will be Sport Ciclista Català (1912), Agrupació Ciclista Montjuïc (1917), Unió Esportiva de Sants (1922), and Club Ciclista de Gràcia (1929), highlighting their enduring contributions to Barcelona’s cycling culture.

100-Day Countdown Clock Activation and Yellow Illumination

A pivotal moment of the celebration will be the activation of a 100-day countdown clock for the Tour de France Barcelona 2026 Grand Départ, officially marking the beginning of the final run-up to the event. Concurrently, several iconic buildings across Barcelona will be illuminated in yellow, the symbolic color of the Tour, visibly signaling the approaching cycling spectacle throughout the city.

Official Song Premiere with Doctor Prats

The celebration will culminate with the unveiling of the official song for the Grand Départ Barcelona 2026, created by the Catalan group Doctor Prats. The track, titled “Energía!” (Energy!), is envisioned as the anthem to accompany the city in the months leading up to the Tour. To mark this occasion, the band will perform a brief live concert, open to all citizens, premiering the song and transforming Passeig Lluís Companys into a vibrant space for collective celebration.

The event underscores Barcelona’s commitment to sports and its ambition to engage the community in this global sporting phenomenon. With activities tailored for all ages and a strong emphasis on the city’s cycling legacy, the countdown celebration is designed to build excitement and foster a sense of shared anticipation for the Tour de France 2026.
