Barcelona Mayor Highlights “Major Transformation” for a Livable City by 2035

Barcelona, May 7 – Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni announced on Thursday that the city is currently undergoing a “major transformation” aimed at making the Catalan capital a more livable city by 2035. The statement was made during the inauguration of the exhibition ‘Barcelona 2035. A city to live in’, as reported by the city council in a press release.

The exhibition, held within the framework of the 2026 World Capital of Architecture, showcases the significant transformations that the city and its surroundings are expected to experience over the next decade.

Key Urban Development Projects Unveiled

The exhibition details several ambitious transformation projects across Barcelona. These include the redevelopment of the Marina del Prat Vermell neighborhood, the revitalization of Montjuïc, and the reform of the Fira de Barcelona. Other key initiatives highlighted are the Ciutadella del Coneixement (Citadel of Knowledge), the new Hospital Clínic at Porta Diagonal, and the expansion of the 22@ Nord district.

Furthermore, the plans encompass the future Sagrera station and its surrounding areas, as well as the ‘Tres Xemeneies’ (Three Chimneys) in Sant Adrià de Besòs and the Bioclúster in L’Hospitalet. These projects collectively aim to reshape Barcelona’s urban landscape, focusing on housing, infrastructure, and community development.

Mayor Collboni emphasized that these transformations are designed to enhance the quality of life for residents and solidify Barcelona’s position as a leading European city.
