Bicimad Expands Beyond Madrid for the First Time, Reaching Pozuelo de Alarcón

Madrid, Community of Madrid, Spain – April 15, 2026 – EMT Madrid’s public electric bicycle rental system, Bicimad, is making a significant stride in sustainable mobility by extending its services beyond the capital for the first time. The system is currently installing 30 new stations and will deploy 370 bicycles in the municipality of Pozuelo de Alarcón, with the service anticipated to commence this summer.

This expansion, backed by an estimated investment of 2.32 million euros funded by the Pozuelo de Alarcón City Council, began with station installations earlier this week. The move signifies a crucial step in Bicimad’s consolidation as a key solution for sustainable urban transportation and marks the beginning of a connected network that transcends municipal boundaries.

Interoperability and Seamless Integration

The City Councils of Madrid and Pozuelo de Alarcón have formalized their collaboration through an agreement that outlines the implementation and operation of the Bicimad system in Pozuelo. This agreement ensures the necessary institutional coordination to guarantee service quality, integration into the existing network, and proper long-term maintenance. The convenio stipulates that both investment and subsequent operational costs will be borne by the Pozuelo de Alarcón City Council, while the management of the service will be handled by the Madrid City Council under the same terms as in the capital.

A cornerstone of this expansion is the full interoperability of the service. Users will be able to utilize Bicimad seamlessly between both municipalities, facilitating easy and flexible interurban travel. This integration represents a significant advancement towards a connected mobility model, promoting sustainable commuting between municipalities and fostering more eco-friendly habits.

With this new expansion, Bicimad reinforces its commitment to decarbonizing Madrid’s mobility and building a network capable of connecting various municipalities. The initiative aims to optimize both urban and interurban travel, encouraging a broader adoption of sustainable transportation methods.
