Badalona, May 23 – A bus fire on the C-31 between Badalona and Sant Adrià de Besòs on Friday evening led to the complete closure of the road for approximately 30 minutes. The incident, which occurred at 6:33 PM, involved a bus transporting 12 tourists to Girona Airport. All passengers were able to exit the vehicle safely, and no injuries have been reported.

Rapid Response by Emergency Services

The alarm was raised at 6:33 PM on Friday, prompting an immediate response from the Bombers de la Generalitat. Five fire brigades were dispatched to the scene to tackle the blaze. Their swift action brought the fire under control, preventing further escalation.

According to sources from the Sant Adrià City Council, the 12 tourists on board were all accounted for and unharmed. They had been en route to Girona Airport when the incident occurred. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, and investigations are expected to commence.

Traffic Disruption and Reopening of C-31

The C-31 was initially completely closed in both directions due to the fire. However, by 7:45 PM, the Servei Català de Trànsit reported that two of the three lanes in the direction of Barcelona had been reopened. The lane towards Mataró remained closed, causing a traffic jam of approximately three kilometers in the affected area.

Emergency services worked diligently to manage the traffic situation and ensure public safety. The partial reopening of the road helped alleviate some of the congestion, but motorists were advised to seek alternative routes if possible.

Ongoing Investigation into the Cause

While the fire has been controlled and the immediate danger averted, the exact cause of the bus fire is yet to be determined. Authorities will conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available from the ongoing inquiry. The focus remains on ensuring the safety of public transport and preventing similar occurrences in the future.
