Madrid, December 23, 2025 – CaixaBank has brought a spectacular Christmas light show to Madrid’s Plaza Mayor, illuminating the historic Casa de la Carnicería building with animated illustrations. This initiative, running daily from 6 PM until January 7th, is considered the largest facade light installation ever exhibited in the capital’s Plaza Mayor due to its size and technical characteristics.

A Dazzling Display on a Historic Facade

The installation features a spectacular LED mesh covering the entire facade of the Casa de la Carnicería, located on the south side of the square, which currently houses the Hotel Pestana Plaza Mayor. This building, an integral part of the city center’s heritage, maintains the monumental character and architectural essence of the 17th century. Over a million people are expected to visit the Plaza Mayor during the Christmas weeks to enjoy CaixaBank’s luminous display.

Animated Illustrations Celebrating Christmas Traditions

Every day from 6 PM, CaixaBank projects animated illustrations linked to special Christmas moments. These include scenes of strolls through Christmas markets, New Year’s resolutions, dinners with loved ones, memories of those far away, and even a nod to the popular churros with chocolate enjoyed in Plaza Mayor.

The intricate animations are made possible by a large-format installation comprising 370 garlands, totaling nearly 100,000 state-of-the-art LEDs. These LEDs offer high luminous power with low energy consumption. Additionally, 70 special modules with Twinkly technology have been manufactured, enabling the ‘intelligent’ use of lights for complex image projections. The installation also includes 60 controllers to configure the mapping.

CaixaBank’s Commitment to Community and Sustainability

This spectacular Christmas event is inspired by CaixaBank’s commitment to supporting its customers and society during important moments. By being part of a deeply rooted tradition like a Christmas stroll through Plaza Mayor, the entity aims to accompany people and offer them a memorable experience through this luminous spectacle. The project was made possible through the collaboration of the Madrid City Council and the Hotel Pestana Plaza Mayor.
