The Governing Council of the Community of Madrid has today approved the bill for the recognition of the new university center of the Instituto de Empresa, which will be named IE University Madrid. This initiative is set to significantly broaden the academic landscape of the region. The legislation will now be forwarded to the Madrid Assembly for its processing and subsequent definitive approval by parliamentary groups.

Expanding Academic Programs and Research

IE University Madrid will build upon the existing experience of the IE Higher Education Center, particularly in Business Administration and Law. The new institution will not only increase the number of available places but also introduce a wider array of degrees and academic areas. Furthermore, it aims to diversify its offerings by incorporating new disciplines such as Architecture and Design, Sciences and Technology, and International Relations. This expansion is strategically designed to strengthen its focus on STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

In the realm of research, the institution plans to implement a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing its capacity for knowledge creation and transfer. This will primarily focus on critical areas such as entrepreneurship, business, finance, economics, public policy, and international relations.

Key Research and Development Areas

IE University Madrid is also committed to exploring various lines of work, including information systems, technology and innovation, operations management, risk analysis and decision-making, economic legislation and regulation, sustainability, urban planning, smart cities, and heritage conservation. These areas reflect a forward-thinking approach to addressing contemporary global challenges.

Madrid’s Robust University Network

Currently, Madrid’s university network is comprised of six public and 13 private institutions, all renowned for their high quality. Together, these universities offer more than 1,800 official undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees. They cater to over 300,000 students, drawing individuals not only from the region but also from across Spain and various international locations, with a notable presence from Hispanic American countries. The addition of IE University Madrid is expected to further enhance this already vibrant and diverse educational ecosystem.

The establishment of IE University Madrid underscores the Community of Madrid’s commitment to fostering a dynamic and comprehensive higher education sector, attracting talent, and promoting innovation and research excellence within the region and beyond.
