Madrid’s ‘LÁNZATE’ Program: Fostering Dual Clinical and Scientific Careers for Emerging Researchers

Madrid, February 26 – The Community of Madrid today approved the first edition of ‘LÁNZATE’, a groundbreaking program aimed at attracting research talent to the public health system and promoting the development of dual clinical and scientific careers for emerging researchers. The terms of this call were published today in the regional Official Gazette (BOCM), following President Díaz Ayuso’s announcement of the initiative during the last State of the Region Debate in September.

The regional government will directly subsidize R&D&i projects with a maximum duration of two years. These funds will cover equipment, consumables, supplies, or intellectual property rights, all with minimal legal bureaucracy to expedite the rapid and effective execution of projects.

Investment and Scope of the Program

The Community of Madrid will invest almost 1 million euros this year in the ‘LÁNZATE’ project. This program is open to professionals working in accredited public Health Research Institutes; hospitals and Primary Care health centers, and other public healthcare entities affiliated with the Ministry of Health.

‘LÁNZATE’ features four access modalities for researchers, with particular attention to a specific line for Nursing staff and another for the primary care level of Madrid’s public health system. There will also be two generic modalities: one for individuals under 45 years of age, and another for professionals developing a competitive program to obtain the R3 certificate of recognition for research quality and independence.

Objectives and Impact

The primary objective of ‘LÁNZATE’ is to strengthen the research capabilities within Madrid’s public health sector. By providing direct funding and streamlining administrative processes, the program seeks to empower emerging researchers to pursue innovative projects that can translate into tangible improvements in patient care and public health outcomes. The focus on dual clinical and scientific careers acknowledges the critical role that healthcare professionals play in both delivering care and advancing medical knowledge.

The inclusion of specific modalities for Nursing staff and Primary Care professionals highlights the Community of Madrid’s commitment to fostering research across all levels of the healthcare system. This inclusive approach aims to harness a wider range of perspectives and expertise, leading to more comprehensive and impactful research initiatives. The program is expected to not only attract new talent but also retain existing skilled professionals by offering them clear pathways for career advancement in research.

Future Prospects

The ‘LÁNZATE’ program is anticipated to have a significant long-term impact on the scientific landscape of the Community of Madrid. By fostering a vibrant research environment and supporting the professional development of emerging scientists, it aims to position Madrid as a leading hub for health innovation. The success of this initial edition will likely pave the way for future expansions and increased investment, further solidifying the region’s commitment to cutting-edge medical research and improved public health services.
