The Community of Madrid will construct 58 public housing units in Guadarrama to facilitate access to a home for vulnerable families and increase the resources of the Social Housing Agency (AVS). The Governing Council authorized the tender process for this project in its latest meeting, with an investment of 14.2 million euros and an execution period of 24 months.
Madrid Advances Social Housing Goals
This initiative aligns with the regional government’s objective to add 2,100 new homes to the AVS’s managed portfolio. Once the tender is awarded and construction begins, Guadarrama will join Majadahonda, Móstoles, Rivas-Vaciamadrid, Valdemoro, Villa del Prado, and the capital, where nearly 1,200 properties are currently under construction.
Details of the Guadarrama Development
Specifically, the new AVS development in Guadarrama, located on Calle Vereda del Colmenar, will feature 58 homes: 34 with three bedrooms and 24 with two bedrooms. Three of these units will be adapted for people with reduced mobility. Additionally, the urbanization will include parking spaces and will be energy-efficient, utilizing an aerothermal climate control system.
The Social Housing Agency currently manages a portfolio of over 50,000 properties, half of which are residential homes, providing housing for approximately 100,000 Madrid residents. As is customary, future tenants will benefit from a subsidized rent of 60 euros for the first three months after signing the contract.
Commitment to Vulnerable Families
This project underscores the Community of Madrid’s commitment to addressing housing needs and supporting its most vulnerable citizens. By expanding the availability of affordable housing, the regional government aims to improve living conditions and foster greater social inclusion across the region. The investment in Guadarrama is a significant step towards achieving these broader social objectives.
Impact on the Local Community
The construction of these new homes is expected to have a positive impact on the Guadarrama community, providing much-needed housing options and contributing to the local economy through job creation during the construction phase. The focus on energy efficiency also reflects a commitment to sustainable development and reduced environmental impact.
Future Outlook for Social Housing in Madrid
The Community of Madrid continues to prioritize social housing initiatives, with ongoing projects aimed at increasing the overall housing stock and ensuring that more families have access to safe and affordable homes. The AVS plays a crucial role in managing these resources and implementing policies that support housing accessibility for all residents.
The successful completion of the Guadarrama project will serve as a model for future developments, reinforcing the regional government’s strategy to combat housing insecurity and provide stable living environments for its citizens. The continuous efforts to expand and improve social housing infrastructure demonstrate a long-term vision for a more equitable and inclusive Madrid.
