Community of Madrid to Update Welcome Signs on Main Access Roads

Madrid, February 28 – The Community of Madrid announced today its plans to renew the image of welcome signs on the principal access roads bordering the region. Jorge Rodrigo, the Minister of Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure, visited the Api Movilidad company’s facilities in Aranjuez, a specialist in manufacturing traffic equipment and signage, to highlight the initiative.

Enhanced Design for Better Visibility and Readability

The new graphic identity features a cleaner and more homogeneous design, incorporating greater chromatic contrast and optimized typography. These improvements are intended to facilitate reading from a greater distance and under adverse weather conditions. Furthermore, the updated signs will include state-of-the-art reflective sheeting to significantly enhance nighttime visibility.

The updated design will retain the symbolism of the previous signs, prominently featuring the shield of the Community of Madrid. This shield incorporates the crimson red color and the seven stars, which represent the Ursa Major constellation.

Phased Implementation and Commitment to Road Safety

The project will be implemented progressively over the coming months, with priority given to sections of roads that experience higher traffic intensity and those identified as needing immediate updates. Through this initiative, the Community of Madrid reaffirms its commitment to continuously improving the regional road network and ensuring driver safety. The goal is to provide more modern, accessible, and efficient signage.

Essential Role of Api Movilidad in Road Network Maintenance

Minister Rodrigo emphasized the crucial role of Api Movilidad, which manufactures 97,000 vertical signs distributed across the region’s 2,500 kilometers of roads. He stated, “This underscores its essential role in the conservation and modernization of the regional road network.”

He further noted that the Community of Madrid allocates 1.8 million euros annually to the renewal of signage. This investment is considered fundamental to ensure that the reflective sheeting on the signs guarantees adequate nighttime visibility. “Each of these signs constitutes a strategic investment, as with a reduced cost, a top-tier preventive element is available that warns of potentially dangerous situations, such as intersections or sharp curves,” Rodrigo added.

Ensuring a Modern and Safe Driving Experience

The modernization of these welcome signs is part of a broader effort by the Community of Madrid to maintain and enhance its infrastructure. By investing in clearer, more visible, and durable signage, the regional government aims to provide a safer and more streamlined driving experience for all who enter and exit the capital.

This initiative reflects a proactive approach to road safety and a commitment to utilizing advanced technology to benefit commuters and travelers alike. The phased rollout will ensure minimal disruption while maximizing the impact of these crucial upgrades.
