Driver Arrested in Madrid After Ramming Civil Guard Motorcyclist and Fleeing
Madrid, April 29 – A driver was arrested yesterday morning after a dangerous high-speed chase following an incident where he rammed a Civil Guard traffic officer. The event took place near the A-2 highway, between Torrejón de Ardoz and San Fernando de Henares. The suspect was found to be in possession of fake police plates, bladed weapons, and simulated firearms.
Dangerous Pursuit and Assault on Officers
The events unfolded around 10:00 AM when Civil Guard agents became suspicious of a vehicle and attempted to stop it. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated, initiating a high-speed escape that included driving against traffic on the highway.
During the pursuit, which involved two Civil Guard motorcyclists, the fugitive deliberately drove towards one of the agents, forcing the officer to swerve into the median to avoid a more serious collision. The second officer continued the chase until the suspect appeared to stop his vehicle, seemingly preparing to surrender.
However, the driver once again acted aggressively. As the second officer passed by, the suspect intentionally struck the agent, causing him to fall onto the road. The vehicle was eventually intercepted near the M-21, where the individual was apprehended.
Contraband Found in Vehicle, Charges Filed
Upon searching the vehicle, agents discovered several knives, simulated firearms, and fake police plates. The arrested individual faces charges of reckless driving, assault, and a crime against authority.
The Unified Association of Civil Guards (AUGC) shared images of the incident on social media, highlighting the inherent dangers faced by officers in their daily duties. The association commended the officers for the arrest and confirmed that the injured guard belongs to the Traffic detachment of Paracuellos del Jarama.
The AUGC has reiterated its long-standing demand for the work of Civil Guards to be officially recognized as a high-risk profession, emphasizing the need for appropriate protections and benefits for agents who regularly confront such perilous situations.
