Female Motorcyclist Dies in Ronda Litoral Accident in Barcelona

A 36-year-old female motorcyclist tragically died yesterday, January 19, in a traffic accident on the Ronda Litoral in Barcelona. The incident, which also involved a truck, occurred shortly after 5:30 PM at kilometer 0.4 of the busy road, in the Besòs direction.

According to a statement from the Barcelona City Council, emergency services, including units from the Central Traffic Accident Investigation Unit (UCAT) of the Urban Guard and ambulances from the Medical Emergency System (SEM), were immediately dispatched to the scene to determine the causes of the accident.

Second Traffic Fatality in Barcelona This Year

This marks the second fatal traffic accident in Barcelona in 2026. On January 9, a 61-year-old female cyclist died after colliding with a car at the intersection of Vilamarí and Diputació streets in the Eixample district. Despite the efforts of SEM personnel and Urban Guard patrols, her life could not be saved.

The City Council has extended its condolences to the family and friends of the victim and has reiterated its commitment to continue working to reduce fatalities in traffic accidents across the city.

Ongoing Efforts for Road Safety

Barcelona has been actively working on initiatives to improve road safety and reduce traffic-related deaths. The city has recently reported historical lows in pollution levels and significant success in sustainable mobility, with the Bicing system alone accounting for nearly 20 million trips annually. Despite these achievements, the recent fatalities highlight the ongoing challenges in ensuring the safety of all road users.

Investigations into the exact cause of yesterday’s accident are ongoing, with authorities urging caution on the roads and reminding drivers and motorcyclists to adhere to traffic regulations.
