Madrid Unveils 11 New Public-Private Projects, Benefiting Over 2.3 Million Residents
Madrid, April 15, 2026 – The plenary session of Foro por Madrid, chaired by Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida, today approved the 2026 action program, which will facilitate the development of 11 new impactful projects for the city. This initiative, driven by public-private collaboration, aims to enhance Madrid’s infrastructure, social welfare, and technological innovation. The meeting took place at the EMT Madrid Operations Center in Carabanchel.
Key Projects to Transform the City
Among the approved projects are the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Madrid Cable Car, the restoration of the Cibeles Fountain, and the implementation of AteneIA-an integrated intelligent supervision and management system for municipal urban services. These three flagship projects are complemented by eight additional initiatives selected through Foro por Madrid, a public-private collaboration platform launched by the City Council in November 2023.
Other significant proposals include the ‘Referente Habitacional’ program, designed to provide housing solutions for citizens participating in the municipal homeless program, and the comprehensive re-naturalization of the playground at Javier de Miguel Public School in the Puente de Vallecas district, which serves over 400 students. Additionally, the approved projects feature the rehabilitation of the water sheet of the Temple of Debod, a citizen training classroom for fire prevention led by the Municipal Fire Department, and the promotion of the Madrid Alliance against child and adolescent harassment.
Growing Impact and Shared Investment
For the first time, the 2026 Foro por Madrid program incorporates three projects proposed by some of the 29 companies and civil society entities that are part of the platform. This expansion signifies a deeper engagement with the private and social sectors in shaping the city’s future.
Mayor Martínez-Almeida highlighted the significant achievements of Foro por Madrid since its inception in 2023. In just two years, this public-private collaboration has launched 50 projects and initiatives, benefiting more than 2.3 million Madrid residents through a shared investment of nearly 4 million euros.
Foro por Madrid: A Catalyst for Urban Transformation
Foro por Madrid serves as a crucial catalyst for urban transformation, with its project portfolio spanning strategic areas such as sustainability, technological innovation, cultural heritage recovery, social inclusion, and the international projection of the city. The forum’s distinctive value lies in its ability to integrate business knowledge, the operational capacity of the public sector, and the active involvement of civil society. This comprehensive approach enables the design of more efficient and innovative solutions for the city’s challenges.
The collaboration fosters a dynamic environment where diverse stakeholders work together to address urban needs, ensuring that Madrid continues to evolve as a modern, inclusive, and sustainable metropolis. The continued success of these public-private partnerships underscores the city’s commitment to leveraging collective expertise for the benefit of its citizens.
The approved projects are expected to commence in the coming months, with regular updates provided on their progress and impact. The City Council emphasizes its dedication to transparency and community engagement throughout the implementation phases.
