Madrid, Spain – The Madrid Comic Fair will hold its second edition from March 26 to 29, 2026, at Matadero Madrid. The event aims to solidify its commitment to comics as a contemporary cultural language and a meeting point for readers, creators, bookstores, and publishers. Following the success of its inaugural edition, the 2026 Fair will center around a journey through the main European comic cities, with Madrid serving as the arrival point and crossroads.

Cultural Journalist Laura Barrachina Appointed Curator

Cultural journalist Laura Barrachina, a prominent voice in comic dissemination in Spain, has been appointed as the curator for this second edition. The official poster for the 2026 Madrid Comic Fair has been commissioned to Madrid-based illustrator Daniel Montero Galán, who will create the graphic image for the event.

Madrid: A Hub for European Comic Traditions

The core theme of the second Madrid Comic Fair will be a tour of cities that have played a fundamental role in the history and present of European comics. This journey will allow for an exploration of different graphic traditions, languages, and perspectives, and a reflection on European identity through comics as a narrative and cultural tool.

“We envision this edition as a journey through the main European comic cities, not as a closed map, but as a route that allows us to discuss current comics, what unites and differentiates us as a continent, and how that dialogue culminates in Madrid, a city that is also today a European comic capital,” explained Laura Barrachina, curator of the second Madrid Comic Fair.

Building on this journey, the Fair encourages a broad interpretation of travel: as a creative process, a vital experience, and a collective movement; as a displacement that fosters encounters and the exchange of ideas, images, and languages; and as comics themselves understood as a journey. In this context, Madrid is presented as an enclave that amplifies the diverse traditions of European comics and the voices that are currently redefining them.

Daniel Montero Galán’s Vision for the Poster

The poster for the second Madrid Comic Fair will be created by Daniel Montero Galán, one of Madrid’s most prominent illustrators and an eyewitness to the first edition. “Last year I attended and found a great celebration of comics: plural, bustling, attractive, enthusiastic,” said Montero Galán. “I will try to capture all those sensations and ensure that everyone who is part of this meeting place feels reflected.”

Growing Fair with Expanded Offerings

With Matadero Madrid as its venue, the second Madrid Comic Fair reaffirms its goal of becoming a permanent fixture on the city’s cultural calendar. The program will include activities for all ages and an expanded sales area compared to the previous edition, featuring specialized bookstores and publishers. Admission will be free, and like last year, visitors will also receive a 10% discount on their purchases.

The Madrid Comic Fair is co-organized by the Madrid City Council and the Madrid Bookstores Association, in collaboration with the Germán Sánchez Ruipérez Foundation.
