Madrid Offers Direct Aid to Businesses Impacted by Public Works

Madrid, June 8, 2026 – The Community of Madrid has officially opened the application period for direct financial aid to commercial and service establishments adversely affected by public works projects undertaken by the regional government. This measure, published in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid, is designed to streamline the process, broaden its coverage, and ensure that funds reach beneficiaries as quickly as possible.

Applications can now be submitted through the Regional Government’s Digital Administration platform and will be processed strictly in the order of receipt. This initiative will provide support to businesses located in areas directly impacted by projects such as the Line 11 Metro extension, as well as any future infrastructure works.

Half a Million Euros Allocated for 2026

For the year 2026, the Community of Madrid has allocated half a million euros to this aid program, with the possibility of increasing this amount based on demand. Furthermore, the maximum aid amount per applicant has been increased by 44%, rising from 5,000 to 7,200 euros.

Beneficiaries can use these funds to cover current operating expenses, including rent or mortgage payments for their premises, as well as associated insurance costs. The scope of eligible expenses has also been expanded to include self-employment contributions for business owners. Specifically for kiosks and similar services, the full cost of public highway occupancy fees will be covered.

Expanded Coverage and Eligibility

The coverage area for the aid has been redefined, establishing a maximum distance of 50 meters from the direct influence zone or the fencing of the works. An extended coverage of up to 250 meters has been set for newsstands, florists, and similar businesses, recognizing their particular reliance on pedestrian traffic.

This program targets small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), individual entrepreneurs, and communities of goods operating at street level within the affected perimeter of works expected to last longer than six months. A key requirement for beneficiaries is to maintain their economic activity for a minimum of six months after receiving payment.

Through this program, the regional government aims to alleviate the negative impact of essential public works and safeguard the retail commercial fabric of the region. This strategic support underscores the Community of Madrid’s commitment to its local businesses and their sustained viability amidst urban development.
