Madrid Shines with Silver at the Start of the 2026 Spanish Cyclocross Championship
Madrid, January 12, 2026 – The Madrid cyclocross team kicked off the 2026 Spanish Cyclocross Championship with a strong performance, securing a silver medal and setting the tone for a weekend of high-level competition. The event began on Friday with the Team Relay, where the Madrid selection finished in a commendable 6th position.
Challenging Conditions and Outstanding Individual Performances
Saturday’s races, which included the U23 men’s, cadet, and various master categories, saw the Ermita de la Virgen de Riánsares circuit largely frozen. This condition particularly challenged master cyclists in the early morning races, forcing them to exercise extreme bike control. As the hours passed, the terrain gradually softened but never became muddy, resulting in a fast track and closely contested races in almost all categories.
Cadet and U23 Categories See Strong Madrid Representation
In the women’s cadet category, Loira Blázquez achieved the best Madrid result, finishing 10th, followed by Claudia de Diego in 16th, and Leire Romo in 29th. For the men’s cadet category, Asier Gómez and Alberto García stood out with top 10 finishes, placing 6th and 8th respectively. Bruno Martí was 18th, and Angelo Sánchez-Quiñones finished 21st.
Emilio Reinoso delivered an outstanding performance in the men’s U23 race, maintaining strength throughout. He lost contact with the leading group with two laps remaining but still secured a brilliant silver medal, crossing the finish line just 19 seconds behind the winner. Marcos finished 22nd in the same category.
Juniors and U23 Conclude the Championship
The competition concluded on Sunday with the junior and U23 categories. In the women’s junior race, Celia Romo finished 11th. For the men’s junior category, Hugo Zarapuz was 9th, Rodrigo Díaz 16th, and Mario Castro 49th.
In the women’s U23, Carolina finished 24th. In the men’s U23, Miguel Díaz achieved an excellent 6th place, battling for fourth position until the final sprint.
Master Cyclists Also Bring Home Medals
The Madrid Cycling Federation also extended congratulations to the master cyclists who traveled to La Mancha for the Nationals. Notable performances included Enrique Aguado, who won silver in the M60-B men’s category; José Luis Rebollo, silver in the M50-A men’s category; María Fernández Lores, silver in the M50-A women’s category; Isabel Olmos, bronze in the M40-A women’s category; Déborah Sánchez, gold in the M30 women’s category; and Cristina Arconada, also bronze in the M30 women’s category.
These results highlight a successful championship for Madrid, showcasing the talent and dedication of its cyclists across various age and experience levels. The challenging conditions added an extra layer of excitement and demonstrated the resilience of the competitors.
The Madrid Cycling Federation continues to support its athletes and promote cycling within the region, looking forward to future competitions and further successes.
