A judge in Móstoles, Madrid, has ordered pre-trial detention for a 23-year-old man arrested on Friday as the alleged perpetrator of the stabbing of an 11-year-old boy in Villanueva de la Cañada. The boy later died from his injuries. The accused has already been admitted to prison.

Investigation Details Emerge

Sources close to the investigation informed Efe that the arrested individual appeared before the duty court in Móstoles on Sunday, which decreed his provisional imprisonment in Navalcarnero prison. The young man, who refused to make a statement to the magistrate, was arrested on Friday as the alleged perpetrator of the crime against David, an 11-year-old boy from Brunete, who was stabbed on Thursday afternoon at the La Despernada cultural center in Villanueva de la Cañada, Madrid.

The Civil Guard is currently searching for the murder weapon with the help of biological remains detection dogs, according to sources close to the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the incident occurred when the minor went to the cultural center’s restrooms, where he had been attending an English class.

Attack in the Cultural Center Restrooms

In the restrooms, the boy, of Romanian origin, was allegedly accosted by his assailant, a 23-year-old man of Latin American origin. The attacker reportedly inflicted several stab wounds before fleeing the scene. Hours later, he was apprehended by the Civil Guard.

Emergency medical services managed to stabilize the minor and transported him to Hospital 12 de Octubre. However, he ultimately succumbed to the stab wounds he sustained in his neck, chest, and back. The incident took place around 7:45 PM on Thursday, at which point the 112 emergency service of the Community of Madrid received notification of the event.

Community Reacts to Tragic Loss

The Mayor of Villanueva de la Cañada, Luis Manuel Partida, led a minute of silence on Friday morning in the town’s Plaza de España to express the community’s shock and dismay at the inexplicable crime. “The human mind is what it is, and those who suffer from problems, well, sometimes they are uncontrollable, and in this case, that’s what happened,” the mayor told reporters regarding the fatal assault. He was accompanied by his counterpart from Brunete, the municipality where the child resided.

This tragic event has deeply affected both communities, prompting calls for reflection on the safety of public spaces and the underlying causes of such violence. Authorities continue their investigation to fully understand the circumstances that led to this devastating loss.
