Móstoles, January 5, 2026 – The city of Móstoles, located in the southern part of the Community of Madrid, has reported the largest reduction in unemployment in the region for the year 2025. The unemployment rate saw a notable decline of 4.83% over the past year, marking a continuation of positive developments in the local job market over several years.
Móstoles Leads Regional Job Creation Efforts
Manuel Bautista, the Mayor of Móstoles, highlighted these figures on Monday, emphasizing that they represent “very good news for the city.” He further noted that a total of 463 individuals successfully secured employment throughout the year, underscoring the effectiveness of municipal employment initiatives.
Móstoles’ performance in job creation surpassed that of other major municipalities in southern Madrid. For comparison, Alcorcón recorded 138 new jobs, Getafe 329, Leganés 356, and Fuenlabrada 426. These statistics position Móstoles as a leader in fostering employment opportunities within the region.
Impact of Municipal Employment Policies
Mayor Bautista attributed these favorable outcomes directly to the employment promotion policies implemented by the municipal government. These initiatives include professional activation programs, job training, professional qualification schemes, and the ongoing efforts of Móstoles Desarrollo, a local development agency.
Currently, Móstoles has 9,123 unemployed individuals, with women accounting for 5,491 and men for 3,632. The services sector continues to exhibit the highest unemployment rate, with 7,168 individuals, followed by construction with 785, and industry with 524.
Continued Focus on Quality Employment and Economic Growth
The Mayor reiterated that “the downward trend in unemployment reinforces the positive impact of measures promoted by the municipal government to encourage job creation and foster higher quality employment opportunities in the city.”
His remarks followed a visit from Rocío Albert, the Regional Minister of Economy, Finance, and Employment, who was in Móstoles to observe the preparation of the traditional Roscón de Reyes at the central workshop of Pastelerías Manacor. This business is among those that have received support from the regional government, demonstrating a collaborative effort to stimulate local businesses and employment.
The positive employment trend in Móstoles stands in contrast to the broader economic challenges faced by some regions. For instance, discussions around increasing taxes on vacant and second homes, as proposed by the PSOE, have been met with opposition from the real estate sector and property owners, who fear such measures could further worsen the housing market and not improve supply.
