Madrid, January 15, 2026 – The National Police are currently investigating the involvement of one or more bouncers from the Opium nightclub, located on José Abascal Street in Madrid’s Chamberí district, in a brutal assault on a 42-year-old client. The incident, which took place last Sunday morning, left the victim in an induced coma due to severe injuries.
Brutal Assault Outside Opium Nightclub
The events unfolded around 6:00 AM as the victim, a Madrid-based company owner, was leaving the club with his brother. They had attended the nightclub to see a DJ known to them. According to statements from their relatives, the two brothers were suddenly pushed by a bouncer while descending the stairs, without any prior provocation or argument. After falling down the staircase, both were reportedly beaten on the public street.
Multiple witnesses claim that at least two bouncers from the nightclub brutally attacked the man, delivering unjustified punches and kicks, much to the surprise of numerous clients who witnessed the assault. Following the beating, the security personnel allegedly left the victim lying in the street and returned inside the nightclub without offering any assistance. However, nightclub management stated that the club was already closed when the aggression occurred, and one of the allegedly involved bouncers had already finished his shift.
Victim Suffers Severe Injuries, Family Seeks Witnesses
The injured man was found lying in one of the central lanes of the road. At that time, many people were outside the venue waiting for taxis and VTC vehicles to return home. Some onlookers recorded the scene with their mobile phones.
Samur-Civil Protection paramedics arrived at the scene and treated the man, who had suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, as reported by Emergencias Madrid. After being stabilized, he was transported in very serious condition to the Hospital Clínico San Carlos, where he was admitted to the ICU. At the hospital, he was intubated and placed in an induced coma due to a traumatic brain injury, a broken nasal septum, a neck fracture, and bilateral aspiration pneumonia. His condition has reportedly improved in recent days, and he has been moved out of the ICU, responding positively to medical treatment.
Police Investigation Underway, Potential Charges for Attempted Homicide
The Judicial Police group from the Chamberí police station has taken charge of the investigation. They are gathering evidence, including recordings from witnesses and surveillance cameras in the area, to clarify the incident. The proceedings could lead to the arrest of one or two individuals for alleged attempted homicide and failure to render aid. As of yesterday, no arrests had been made, although they are expected imminently.
Police have not yet been able to take a statement from the victim due to his health condition, but his brother has provided testimony.
The victim’s family has appealed for public cooperation, asking anyone who recorded the assault to provide images that could help identify all those involved. They believe numerous witnesses could have filmed the aggression with their mobile phones.
