Tragic Weekend in Barcelona: Two Dead, Multiple Injured in Four Stabbings
The metropolitan area of Barcelona experienced a weekend marked by violence, with four stabbings occurring in just 24 hours, two of which were fatal. These incidents have raised concerns about public safety in the Catalan capital.
Fatal Stabbing in Esplugues de Llobregat
The most shocking incident took place on Saturday morning in Esplugues de Llobregat, where a man fatally stabbed a woman with a bladed weapon in the street. Sources close to the investigation indicate that the assailant stabbed and then slit the victim’s throat on a municipal street.
Emergency services, including several units from the Mossos d’Esquadra and the Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM), responded to the scene, but paramedics were unable to save the victim’s life. Following the aggression, the man fled the area but was located and apprehended shortly after by Catalan police. The Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Mossos has taken charge of the investigation, which remains under judicial secrecy. The suspect is currently in police custody, awaiting his court appearance.
Esplugues to Pay Tribute to Murdered Woman
The Esplugues de Llobregat City Council has called for a gathering this Monday at 6:00 PM in front of the town hall to remember the young woman murdered on Saturday. The local mayor, Eduard Sanz, announced via social media that the city council has declared two days of mourning for this assassination and has called for a minute of silence this Monday “to express condolences, solidarity with those affected, and a firm rejection of violence.”
Minor Arrested for Fatal Stabbing in Ciutat Vella
Also over the weekend, the Mossos d’Esquadra arrested a minor in Barcelona for fatally stabbing a man with a bladed weapon in a street in the Ciutat Vella district, as reported by the Catalan police in a statement. The incident occurred around 11:55 PM on Saturday when police received a report of an incident on Calle Cera. Emergency medical personnel (SEM) attended to a seriously injured man at the scene and transported him in critical condition to a hospital, where he later died.
The alleged perpetrator was subsequently located by agents of the Guàrdia Urbana and taken into custody. The Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Mossos has also taken over this case, which remains under judicial secrecy.
Two Additional Stabbing Incidents
In addition to these two homicides, two other violent incidents involving bladed weapons were reported during the weekend. In one instance, a fight in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat left a person seriously injured with multiple stab wounds. In the other, a man was injured in a public aggression in the center of Barcelona, specifically in Plaça Catalunya.
These events highlight a concerning surge in violent crime in the region, prompting local authorities to intensify investigations and address public safety concerns.
