Sant Jordi 2026: Barcelona Libraries Kick Off a Literary April

Barcelona Libraries are gearing up for a month-long celebration of literature, culminating in the festive Sant Jordi Day. This April 2026, anticipate a rich program of encounters with authors, reading clubs, and various literary proposals designed to engage the city’s readers.

Sant Jordi Dialogues 2026: Meet the Authors

From April 15 to 21, Barcelona Libraries will serve as a meeting point for authors and readers, setting the stage for Sant Jordi Day. Here’s a look at the scheduled dialogues:

  • Wednesday, April 15, at B. Esquerra de l’Eixample – Agustí Centelles: Hugo Gonçalves, Mercè Ibarz, and Lídia Jorge will discuss their works: Revolución (Libros del Asteroide, 2025), Una noia a la ciutat (Anagrama, 2025), and Los memorables (La Umbría y La Solana, 2022).
  • Thursday, April 16, at B. Jaume Fuster: Lucía Solla Sobral and Sandro Veronesi will converse about Comerás flores (Libros del Asteroide, 2025) and Setembre negre/Septiembre negro (Edicions del Periscopi, 2026/Anagrama, 2026).
  • Friday, April 17, at B. Gabriel García Márquez: Desirée de Fez and Maria Rovira will present No la dejes sola (Blackie Books, 2026) and Garlanda (Blackie Books, 2026).
  • Monday, April 20, at B. Sarrià- J. V. Foix: Donatella Di Cesare and Eudald Espluga will explore Tecnofeixisme (Arcàdia, 2026) and Imaginar la fi (Raig Verd, 2026).
  • Tuesday, April 21, at B. Francesca Bonemaison: Zülfü Livaneli and Burhan Sönmez will discuss the relationship between literature and political commitment. Immediately after, at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, Han Kang, Nobel Prize in Literature 2024, will converse with Mar García Puig, reflecting on her storytelling mechanisms and literature’s role in fighting oblivion and healing collective wounds.

Reading Proclamation 2026

On Wednesday, April 22, at the Saló de Cent of the Barcelona City Council, writer Ali Smith will deliver the Reading Proclamation. She will then engage in a conversation with translator Dolors Udina about her work and the significant role reading and libraries have played in her life.

New Open Sessions for Reading Clubs

Several reading clubs across Barcelona Libraries will host open sessions with authors:

  • Thursday, April 9, at B. Las Roquetes – Rafa Juncadella: Irene Pujadas will participate in the general reading club with Els desperfectes.
  • Monday, April 13, at B. Vila de Gràcia – Rosa M. Arquimbau: Agnès Agboton will discuss Més enllà del mar de sorra in the African literature club.
  • Tuesday, April 14, at B. Sofia Barat: Jordi Puntí will attend the open session of the general reading club with his book Confeti.
  • Tuesday, April 14, at B. El Carmel – Juan Marsé: Julià Guillamon will participate with his book El rellotge verd in an open session of the Barcelona novel reading club.
  • Thursday, April 16, at B. El Clot – Josep Benet: Francesc Miralles will discuss Viatge a Andròmeda in the youth reading club.
  • Monday, April 20, at B. Sarrià- J. V. Foix: Carme Torras will attend the open session of the Science Fiction Ladies reading club with her book Estimades màquines.
  • Tuesday, April 21, at B. Gòtic – Andreu Nin: Maria Canelles and her Contra la nostàlgia will be featured in the general reading club.
  • Tuesday, April 21, at B. Ramon d’Alòs – Moner: Carlos Zanón will participate with his book Love Song in the general reading club.
  • Tuesday, April 21, at B. Vila de Gràcia – Rosa M. Arquimbau: Imma Monsó will participate in the general reading club with Tot un caràcter.
  • Monday, April 27, at B. Poble-sec – Francesc Boix: Gemma Calduch will converse with writer Inés Macpherson about her book Si sabessis el mar com és bonic within the general reading club.
  • Wednesday, April 29, at B. Sant Antoni – Joan Oliver: Mary Nash, author of Dones en transició: De la resistència política a la legitimitat feminista: les dones en la Barcelona de la Transició, will participate in the historical memory of Francoism reading club.

New “Parlem amb” Sessions

  • Thursday, April 9, at B. Barceloneta – La Fraternitat: Marc Casanovas will speak with Carles Armengol about his book Una òpera gastronòmica: vida i mort de Ramon Cabau, ànima de la Boqueria.
  • Wednesday, April 15, at B. Poble-sec – Francesc Boix: Paco Niebla will converse with Ricard Marco about his book La protestante: ojos azules, corazón rojo.
  • Friday, April 17, at B. Zona Nord – Mària Sánchez: Agus Ferreras will present his new book Voz de migrantes en la Zona Nord.

Explosive Readings for ESO Students

This April, the “Explosive Readings” program for ESO students will offer augmented reading proposals, including meetings with authors and visits to text-related locations. Pep Puig, author of Si una tarda de juliol un borinot, will meet students at the Arixu de Fotografia de Barcelona, and Pol Castellanos, author of L’assassina de Venècia, at the Poblenou cemetery.

  • Tuesday, April 7, at B. Guinardó – Mercè Rodoreda: The School of Thought, a dialogue, critique, and debate space led by Marina Garcés and Albert Lladó, will host writer Gabriela Wiener.
  • Thursday, April 9, at B. Poblenou – Manuel Arranz: Illustrator, children’s book author, and animation film director Catarina Sobral will participate in Collita Fresca, presenting the latest children’s and youth novelties.
  • Wednesday, April 15 and 29, at B. Francesca Bonnemaison: Writer Belén López Peiró will lead the workshop “Read, Write, and Share: Ecofeminist Narratives.”
