Barcelona, May 11 – Indra Group, a leading global technology and consulting company, yesterday presented its ambitious Growth and Investment Plan for Catalonia. The initiative aims to create 1,500 new highly qualified jobs, bringing the total workforce in the region to 5,000 professionals by 2027. Additionally, the company anticipates multiplying its sales generated from Catalonia by 1.5 times, exceeding 550 million euros in managed business for clients worldwide by the same year, solidifying its position as the leading technology company by employment in Catalonia.

Strategic Growth and Key Sectors

The announcement was made by Indra Group’s Chairman, Ángel Simon, and CEO, José Vicente de los Mozos, during the event “Innovate, advance, grow. All united, stronger. The time is now,” held in Barcelona. The event gathered over 200 representatives from companies, SMEs, startups, universities, and research centers. The President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Salvador Illa, and the Secretaries of State for Defence, Amparo Valcarce, and Industry, Jordi García Brustenga, also attended, expressing institutional support.

De los Mozos outlined the strategic pillars of the Growth Plan in Catalonia, which focuses on five priority expansion sectors:

  • Space and communications
  • Cybersecurity
  • Cyberdefense and integral security
  • Terrestrial vehicles
  • Digitalization of industry and public administrations

Furthermore, the plan incorporates three transversal corporate development axes: technology, talent, and engagement with civil society.

Commitment to Catalonia’s Future and European Sovereignty

Indra Group currently operates centers in Barcelona, Tarragona, Girona, and Lleida, employing over 3,500 highly qualified professionals. The company has formalized nineteen agreements with SMEs, startups, and research centers specializing in dual-use technologies (civil and military), cybersecurity, and space. These areas are crucial for Indra Group’s projects in Catalonia, aligning with the industrial plans of the Ministry of Defence’s Special Modernization Programs (PEM).

Ángel Simon emphasized that the current European context necessitates companies capable of providing stability, an industrial vision, and long-term execution capabilities. He highlighted Indra’s three decades of fostering an innovation, industry, and talent ecosystem in Catalonia, addressing European strategic priorities. Simon underscored the company’s role as a leading technological integrator in defense, security, space, and artificial intelligence.

“Europe needs a solid industrial base to preserve its autonomy. Indra is prepared to lead this challenge as a reliable partner for institutions and a driving force for industry, promoting projects in Catalonia and other territories that generate strategic capabilities, qualified employment, and opportunities for young people,” Simon stated.

José Vicente de los Mozos reiterated the company’s commitment to strengthening Catalonia’s industrial ecosystem, leveraging new investments in technology and modernizing security and defense capabilities. “We are committed to the Catalan industrial fabric, known for its excellence and innovative capabilities, and we are also committed to generating 1,500 new quality jobs in less than a year, thus consolidating Indra Group as the leading technology company by employment in Catalonia.”

Reinforcing the Strategic Plan and Fostering Collaboration

The Catalonia Plan is designed to reinforce Indra Group’s ‘Leading the Future’ Strategic Plan, which focuses on defense, aerospace, and advanced digital technologies. This overarching strategy aims to establish Indra as a national leader in technology and defense within ten years, playing a pivotal role in European security and sovereignty.

The plan also seeks to enhance the group’s presence and activities across Catalonia, increasing managed business and expanding its workforce to act as a catalyst for local companies in high-value-added sectors. This strategic alignment is intended to facilitate Catalonia’s participation in the wave of Spanish and European investments directed towards the defense and space sectors.

The event in Barcelona also served as a platform for dialogue and collaboration, featuring interventions from Miguel Ángel Panduro, General Director of Indra Space; Ignacio Martínez, General Director of IndraMind; and Frank Torres, General Director of Indra Land Vehicles. These executives lead key areas for driving industrial development and the application of dual technologies in the defense sector.

Two-panel discussions were also held with companies, SMEs, startups, universities, and innovation centers. Speakers discussed opportunities arising from the Special Modernization Programs (PEM), focusing on industrial development in Catalonia, research, and international projection. The first panel, moderated by Jaume Baró, Secretary of Enterprise and Competitiveness of the Generalitat de Cataluña, included representatives from leading dual-technology companies such as David Garriga (Sirt), Jesús Montoliu (Solve), Carlos Abellán (Quside), and Josep Antón Sánchez (Labcircuit).

Javier Selva, General Director of Knowledge Transfer and Society of the Government, led the second panel on Catalan research and innovation. Participants included Jordi Riu (Beamagine), Joan Farnos (Barcelona Supercomputing Center), Pau Guasch (Seabots), Ana Moliner (i2CAT), and Jordi Berenguer (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC)).
