Barcelona, June 10 – FC Barcelona, in a joint effort with the Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya, has formally submitted its bid to UEFA to host the 2029 Champions League Final at the Spotify Camp Nou. The club announced this Wednesday that the comprehensive dossier presented to European football’s governing body also has the support of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) as the host and co-organizing association.

Comprehensive Bid Highlights Camp Nou’s Readiness

The submitted documentation includes all technical, contractual, and institutional requirements mandated by UEFA, alongside the necessary guarantees to demonstrate the organizational capacity of Spotify Camp Nou and the city of Barcelona to host one of the world’s most significant sporting events. The club emphasized that this bid underscores Barcelona’s proven experience in organizing major international events and highlights the renovated Camp Nou as a global reference stadium.

“With a long history linked to the grand stages of international football and undergoing a profound transformation that consolidates it among the most modern, innovative, and emblematic stadiums in the world, the Camp Nou meets all the conditions to be the ideal setting for a Champions League final,” stated the club’s press release. The venue has historically been recognized by UEFA as a top-category stadium and is the largest in Europe by capacity.

Evaluation Process Underway, Decision Expected Late 2026

With the submission of this dossier, the formal bidding process is complete. UEFA will now commence the evaluation phase of the various proposals received to determine which venues will be selected to host the 2029 Champions League Final. The club and the involved institutions are awaiting UEFA’s final decision, which is anticipated in the last quarter of this year.

The Camp Nou has previously hosted the Champions League final in 1989 and 1999, demonstrating its capability and historical significance in European club football. The current renovation project aims to further enhance the stadium’s facilities, ensuring it remains at the forefront of global sports venues.

Barcelona’s Commitment to Major Events

This bid is part of Barcelona’s broader strategy to position itself as a leading city for international events, leveraging its existing infrastructure and organizational expertise. The collaboration between FC Barcelona, the city council, and the regional government highlights a united front in pursuing this prestigious hosting opportunity.

The competition for hosting the Champions League Final is intense, with several other candidacies vying for the same honor. However, Barcelona’s strong track record, coupled with the ongoing modernization of the Camp Nou, presents a compelling case for the city.

The outcome of UEFA’s evaluation will be closely watched by football enthusiasts and stakeholders alike, as the chosen venue will play a pivotal role in one of the most anticipated events in the football calendar.
