FC Barcelona’s 100 Million Euro Bid for Julián Álvarez Revealed
Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, June 10, 2026 – FC Barcelona attempted to sign Julián Álvarez with a 100 million euro offer, to be paid over six years, according to new details unveiled by Manu Carreño on ‘El Larguero’. The bid was reportedly made through the Argentine’s representative, following controversial social media posts from Atlético Madrid.
The news comes after weeks of speculation surrounding Álvarez’s future, with both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona reportedly showing interest in the player. While Real Madrid’s 150 million euro offer to Atlético Madrid for Álvarez was made public yesterday, new information sheds light on Barcelona’s earlier, less direct approach.
Offer Followed Atlético’s Social Media Posts
According to Carreño, FC Barcelona had not made any direct offer for Álvarez until after Atlético Madrid’s now-infamous social media posts. These posts, which featured images of Barcelona players Pedri, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal Photoshopped into Atlético Madrid kits, were a response to earlier rumors linking Álvarez with the Catalan club.
“Until Atlético de Madrid responded with the famous tweets and photos of Pedri, Raphinha and Lamine dressed in rojiblanco, Barça had not made any offer,” Carreño explained. He further detailed that it was precisely after the uproar caused by these publications that Barcelona made an offer, though not directly to Atlético, but through Julián Álvarez’s agent.
“Those tweets produced a stunned silence in Barcelona, but an offer was made. And that offer, from a few days ago, was for 100 million euros, which, according to the agent, would be paid in installments over six years,” Carreño added. A key nuance of that offer is that it did not occur when rumors of a possible signing by FC Barcelona were on the rise, but once Atlético had put an end to them with that resounding response on social media.
Difference in Approach: Barcelona vs. Real Madrid
The director of ‘El Larguero’ also highlighted a significant difference in the approach taken by Real Madrid and FC Barcelona in their attempts to sign the Argentine striker. “Although both have shown interest in Julián, it has been in different ways. Barça was in charge of televising everything, as it did with Nico Williams, in a way, for me, less elegant,” Carreño opined.
In contrast, “Real Madrid’s procedure has been different because it has made a serious offer, from club to club.” This distinction underscores the differing strategies employed by the two Spanish football giants in the transfer market.
Atlético Rejects Offers, Citing 500 Million Euro Release Clause
Despite FC Barcelona’s 100 million euro offer, and Real Madrid’s subsequent 150 million euro bid, Atlético Madrid has rejected both. The club maintains that Álvarez’s release clause is around 500 million euros, indicating their reluctance to part with the player for a lower sum. This stance suggests a prolonged transfer saga for the Argentine forward.
The transfer market continues to be a hotbed of activity, with Julián Álvarez at the center of a high-stakes bidding war between Spain’s top clubs. As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on Atlético Madrid’s next move and whether any club will meet their valuation for the talented striker.
