Madrid, May 24, 2026 – The Community of Madrid is set to host the III Green Arch Cross on June 20, 2026, an event designed to raise awareness about its expansive environmental corridor, which will this year stretch to 262 kilometers in length. Registration for the event will be open until June 16, or until the maximum number of participants is reached, and can be completed via the official website.
Event Location and History
The first edition of this initiative, which traverses natural areas of the region included in the Green Arch project, took place in Monte Valdelatas (Alcobendas). The second edition was held in Polvoranca Forest Park (Leganés). This year, the cross will be held in Monte de Boadilla, a natural environment of significant landscape value located in the municipality of Boadilla del Monte. This area boasts an extensive forest mass of 826 hectares, featuring holm oaks, ash trees, and pine forests, alongside a rich biodiversity of flora and fauna.
Race Modalities and Participation
The event will feature two race modalities: 5 kilometers and 9 kilometers. Minors aged 12 and above are permitted to participate with adult authorization. This popular race is scheduled to commence at 09:00 AM, and participants in both distances must complete the course by 10:45 AM, the designated cut-off time.
Organization and Green Arch Project
The Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Interior is organizing this race in collaboration with the Boadilla del Monte City Council and the sports events and timing company Tcronometro. The event’s name, ‘Green Arch’, refers to a project initiated in 2019 with the aim of bringing nature closer to citizens. This ambitious project connects 25 municipalities in the Metropolitan Area with the Regional Parks of the Upper Manzanares Basin, the Middle Course of the Guadarrama River, and the Southeast, as well as other areas within the network of peri-urban parks, public utility forests, and high environmental value forest areas.
Promotional Efforts and Future Outlook
The Green Arch Cross serves as a key promotional tool for this significant environmental initiative, allowing residents and visitors to experience firsthand the natural beauty and ecological importance of the region’s green infrastructure. The continuous expansion of the Green Arch corridor underscores the Community of Madrid’s commitment to environmental conservation and the promotion of healthy, active lifestyles among its citizens. The event provides a unique opportunity for participants to engage with nature while contributing to the visibility of this vital ecological project.
